History of strawberry
1300’s :
 In Europe ,Strawberry was cultivated by the French. They took the wood strawberry also named as Fragaria Vesca into their graden from wild environment.

1500’s:
 In Europe, the musky strawberry also named as Fragaria moschata took
into gardens for cultivation.

1600’s,
The Virginia strawberry also known as Fragaria Virginiana came into Europe from America which was not initially popular.

1700’s-1800’s:
In 1714, the strawberry from Chile also named as Fragaria Chiloensis  taken to France. The preference was given to such strawberry because of  its large flowers which in result cause large strawberry but it was not hardy and not easy to grow inland which was not near to mild coastal climates.  
In 1800’s start, the strawberry named as Fragria Viginiana got popular in England.Also gargener from England  worked for new types of strawberries and achived about 30 types of new strawberry.
Fragaria ananassa  were grown after crossed in Europe.It was reported that the cross of two types of the strawberries were also achieved by Virginian strawberry with the Chilean strawberry  accidently.It happened by staminate Virginian plants which crossed with pistillate Chilean plants.Now a days , Strawberries available from this crossed strawberries species.
                   The first variety of American strawberry (Hovey Strawberry) achieved from crossed strawberry by the nurseryman named as Charles Hovey in 1834.Charles Hovey was a nurseryman .In 1851, Wilson strawberry introduced by James Wilson after he crossed the Hovey strawberry with some other species. This species were suitable for different land soil. These were hardier, firmer and productive in accordance to other strawberry species with larger size range
Wilson work on strawberry turned into one of the major crop of the continent.
1900’s
  It was about 1909 that the new strawberry type introduced by E.C. Howard who belongs to Belchertown, MA. Such a strawberry named as “Howard17”.It was strong in accordance to leaf scorch, leaf spot and virus diseases. The different crowns in bud start stages of flower also formed in this type.
In 1920, the strawberries with 7 common chromosomes were available but the chromosomes pair were different among them.
In 1957, George M. Darrow who was working for U.S. Department of Agriculture developed more than 24 strawberries types with improved disease resistance that lies in strawberries.

Health Benefits of strawberry


Strawberries have several benefits for health. There are followings health benefits of strawberry.
(i) Strawberry as Immunity Booster food:
 According to reported data, strawberry can be used for boosting immunity as vitamin C is present in it. (Refer 3)

(ii)Strawberry to Regulate Blood Pressure
                                      The vessels widened after being relaxed causing lowering the pressure of blood. Also potassium lies in much nutrient in the list of such nutrients which are in much quantity of strawberry, so potassium is useful for treating/controlling blood pressure. (Refer 4, 5)

(iii) Strawberry for Health of Brain 
As strawberries have antioxidants contents in high concentration supporting the defense system of brain cells to be damaged by free radicals. Strawberries with their antioxidant ability may also altering the brain communication pattern. (Refer 6 )

iv) Strawberry anti-inflammatory activities
Vitamin C lies in strawberry in much concentration which contains anti-inflammatory effect.   (Refer 7). Consumption of more than 16 strawberries per week changes about 14% of C-reactive protein (CRP) level which was elevated in accordance with the research work from Harvard School of public health for women as CRP increasing level causes inflammation in the body.(Refer 8)
Due to quercetin presence in the strawberry, atherosclerotic plaque formation may be reduced.

(v) Strawberry for teeth
As malic acid which is astringent and useful for discoloration in tooth lies in strawberries, so it may be used for discoloring or whitening of the teeth.

(vi)Strawberries for skin
 - For removing dead skin cells strawberries are useful as these contain alpha-hydroxy   
    acid. These are also useful in the process of skin in cleanses.  
- Dark spots and hyperpigmentation reduced due to ellagic acid salicylic acid. Such studied  
   publish by Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Pennsylvania. (Refer 10)
  -Also by tightening the sin pores for overcoming acne to increase. (Refer 11)

(vii) Strawberry for hair:
It may be used for overcoming of hair split from ends and reduction of hair fall due to vitamin C.   (Refer 12)
